Melanie Barron

Melanie Barron (she/her) is a lifelong southerner, and has been organizing in and around Tennessee since 2012 when she joined United Campus Workers (UCW) at the University of Tennessee. While she earned her PhD in Human Geography in 2016, she really majored in union organizing, and since graduating has been working as an organizer. Her proudest achievement is co-leading the team to expand UCW across the Southeast, bringing 5000 new workers into the labor movement in states without collective bargaining rights. When she’s not traveling to such glamorous destinations as rural Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana, she’s hanging with her husband, 2 dogs, and 2 cats in beautiful Knoxville, TN.
